Elder Abuse Specialist
FT, non-exempt, Benefit Eligible
Under the direct supervision of the Health Outreach Manager, the Elder Abuse Specialist will provide case management, advocacy and crisis intervention for elder and dependent adult victims of abuse, act as a linkage to other WEAVE services, and serve as a liaison to partner agencies serving on the multi-disciplinary team for elder and dependent adult abuse.
Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse refers to: Individuals who are 65 years of age or older who have been victims of crimes including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, medication abuse, constraint and neglect.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct Client Services
- Provide case management, advocacy, accompaniment, safety planning
- Acts as a linkage to other WEAVE services: counseling, residential, legal, 24/7 response
- Maintain accurate and complete client files
- Work with Adult Protective Services as needed
- Advocate for the concerns of clients with their support systems, health system, the legal system, social service agencies and other helping professionals
Other Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison to partner agencies serving on the multi-disciplinary team for elder and dependent adult abuse
- Coordinate meetings for the multidisciplinary team and act as primary contact
- Prepare reports for the associated grant
- Attend and participate in agency meetings and committees, as assigned
- Maintain accurate timesheets and other work-related documents
- Represent the agency in community speaking engagements and networking opportunities, as assigned
- Other job duties as assigned
ADA Job Characteristics:
Local travel (driving) is required to respond to calls and attend off-site meetings. Lift and carry 25 lbs., extend both arms above the head and/or reach below the waist, stoop, squat, crawl, bend the back to open lower-level filing drawers, or to retrieve stored items, climb a ladder or stairs, or use an elevator. Sit frequently. Use fine manipulation (hands and wrist) to operate a keyboard, take notes, complete and file reports, file and copy documents. Corrected vision to normal range. Speak in normal vocal tone and range, and communicate clearly and concisely to and with others. Apply above average reasoning and detail as required in the accomplishment of job duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work or related field
- Three years experience working with diverse populations, including older adults.
- Experience working with domestic violence and sexual assault preferred
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Complete WEAVE’s 69-hour peer counselor training (post-hiring requirement) and yearly completion of WEAVE’s continuing education requirements to maintain certification.
- Provide copy of valid California driver license, have reliable transportation, and submit current proof of vehicle insurance
- Required to stay current on BBS registration and carry individual liability insurance
- Satisfactory results from DOJ background check
