WEAVE has named the Elk Grove Police Department as a 2015 recipient of its Community Partnership Award. The award will be presented to Chief Robert Lehner and department personnel during a public reception on Thursday, October 22. The reception will be held at the Flaming Grill Café at 2513 West Taron Court, Elk Grove CA 95757. The event will begin at 5:30  pm with award presentation at 6 pm. The public is invited to attend.

The award recognizes the Elk Grove Police Department’s Domestic Violence Response Team. The program was reestablished in 2013 when the city secured federal funding and partnered with WEAVE to implement the program. The Domestic Violence Response Team includes a WEAVE DVRT Advocate who works at the police department in support of the work of officers and detectives responding to domestic violence calls.

“The Elk Grove Police Department Domestic Violence Response Team is an exemplary example of the value of partnerships in creating a community response that supports victims and holds abuser accountable through arrest and prosecution” states WEAVE Executive Director Beth Hassett. “Through this partnership, hundreds of victims have received support enabling them to better participate in the investigation and prosecution process while ensuring their safety and the well-being of children in the home.”

WEAVE established the Community Partnership Award in 2008 as a way of honoring individuals, organizations, and businesses whose partnership with WEAVE contributes to building a community that does not tolerate domestic violence and sexual assault. The award is presented to exemplary efforts which directly impact the safety and well-being of victims and the community.
